Building on the successful experience with the BMW X5, BMW expanded its range in 2003 with a more compact version of the X3. The car built on the same platform as the BMW 3 Series. The design retains the hereditary features and proportions demonstrated on the older model and in the BMW 3 Series Touring and BMW 5 Series Touring station wagons. The “double” headlights, characteristic “nostrils” of the radiator grille, high body profile, rear lights divided into two sections, and other exterior features are responsible for unconditional recognition. Simultaneously, the novelty is not so much inferior in size to the X5: at the most – in length by 100 mm, and terms of the other two indicators (width and height) – by 15 and 65 mm, respectively. The wheelbase is also slightly smaller – by 25 mm. Thus, BMW has become a sports-oriented crossover, more convenient in urban use and quite spacious inside. A set of powerful units is responsible for dynamic performance, the youngest of which produces 150 hp each. (2.0 l, gasoline and 2.0 l, diesel), the most powerful – 231 hp. (3.0 L, 231 HP). An intermediate position occupied by a 2.5-litre gasoline engine (192 hp) and a 3.0-litre diesel engine (204 hp).
