BMW X5 III (F15) (2013 – 2018)
The third-generation X5 does not recognize the previous model. Absolutely all external body panels and lighting equipment have changed. The salon has radically transformed. Nevertheless, the new crossover can talk about as a globally modernized previous one. The chassis’ dimensions remained the same, and all the slight increase in sizes can be attributed to the body kit. In principle, the suspension scheme has been preserved – double wishbone at the front and multi-link at the rear. The 8-speed “automatic” ZF has a new processor and the all-wheel-drive system xDrive – an active rear differential. The 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo engine got the Valvetronic throttle less mechanism, which increased its power from 407 to 450 hp. The three-litre diesel engine’s influence rose from 245 to 258 forces (in Austarlia, 249 hp). But its next version can already be considered new. Another compressor added to the two turbines – the output increased to 381 litres.
The standard equipment of the car includes an 8-speed automatic transmission (in the X5 xDriveM50d version – a sports gearbox), fog lights, an electric boot, a multifunction steering wheel, a folding rear seat system 40:20:40, LED interior lighting, Bluetooth, USB, iDrive controller with colour monitor measuring 6.5 inches. Seat upholstery in fabric, 3-spoke steering wheel in leather, while the M50d offers a combination of Alcantara / leather combination and exclusive seat upholstery including M embossing, M leather steering wheel, anti-glare folding mirrors, sport seats for driver and front passenger seat with electric adjustment and memory function for the driver’s seat. But even in the lower trim levels, the standard design can easily be improved by using the appropriate design lines and trim elements for the body and interior, including inlays, roof rails, aerodynamic body kit, exclusive leather upholstery, sports seats, not to mention additional equipment options such as a 10.25 ” Black Panel multifunctional instrument display, four-zone climate control, an audio system with 600W digital amplifier and 16 speakers, front massage seats, rear passenger entertainment and third row of seats …
The engines have already mentioned above, but the most exciting option in terms of power and fuel economy deserves extra details – this is a modification of the BMW X5 M50d. Under the hood is the TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder diesel engine, which combines direct injection and a unique three-stage variable geometry turbocharger. The torque is impressive – 740 Nm in the rev range from 2000 to 3000. Maximum power 381 hp. Sec., and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 5.3 s. Simultaneously, the car demonstrates a modest fuel consumption of 6.7 l / 100 km and an emission level of 177 g CO2 per km, which is the best demonstration of the principle “less fuel, more dynamics”. Along with a powerful diesel engine, an M-package is available: a body kit with different bumpers, an adaptive suspension, another gearbox control program, launch control.
The xDrive system is another fundamental element of the car. The intelligent BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system adapts perfectly to the most challenging road conditions, ensuring maximum traction. It works in conjunction with the DSC stabilization system, which guarantees excellent stability and safety. The optional M Adaptive Suspension gives the vehicle a true sporty character. Thanks to the dynamic suspension control system and the rear axle’s air suspension, the car has precise, precisely controlled handling parameters. And the Dynamic Performance Control and Dynamic Drive systems guarantee even more informative steering and reduce lateral body roll when cornering.
In addition to the DSC system of the active “assistants” in the BMW X5, there is a wide range of standard dynamic systems (ABS, EBD, BAS), as well as the Hill Descent Assist (DAC), tire pressure monitoring, driving assistant, which includes cameras of the tracking system for marking, distance control, tracking of dead zones and warning of dangerous approach to cars and pedestrians. In addition, the X5 offers thermal imaging camera night vision, anti-glare high beam automatic control, head-up display, and surround cameras.
It is worth noting that the previous generation (E70) offered more headroom compared to the first generation (E53), a more stable and dynamic chassis formula and a significant development in power and fuel economy. The third generation of the F15 is a further improvement of the already achieved achievements. The car has become even more powerful, more luxurious, more modern.
